Almost since I could read, I’ve also been a writer. At first it was short stories written by hand while I waited for my parents when they were at meetings.
As a preteen with no social skills, I stumbled across Mum’s copy of How to Win Friends and Influence People. It gave me the hope that the power to change my life was in my control.
For the past seven years, I’ve combined that love of reading and self-help with my passion for writing. I’m currently a contributing editor to Business First, New Wealth Creator, Your Trading Edge and the Australian National Review.
In the past, I’ve done the same role at Think & Grow Rich Inc, thinkBIG and Succeed.
In 2013 I read 131 books, and most were in the self-help field. Reading as much as I do gives me a unique perspective. I understand the latest trends in self-help (hint: if you don’t practice mindfulness, get started fast).
With me, you get a direct-response copywriter with experience in the self-help area. And you’re getting someone who knows the self-help field inside out. I want your business to grow so you can change more lives.
How I Used Self-Help to Change My Life: From Beaten by Bipolar to Compassionate Carer
The month before I turned 21 I a psychiatrist diagnosed me with bipolar disorder. Some of the factors that contributed to my first manic episode came from a challenging childhood.
In the wake of having *gasp* a mental illness, I devoted myself to self-help books. They continued to offer the hope that I could make my life better. The first five years after my diagnosis were the bleakest time in my life.
But as I read self-help books and took action, my life got better. Despite four hospital admissions in the first five years, I’ve beaten the statistics that say I’d have 8 relapses in 10 years. For 13 years, I’ve prevented a relapse of mania or depression.
An unexpected benefit of taking control of my mental vitality was that I could care for Grandma when she most needed someone. She has dementia. For two and a half years, I looked after her at home. In 2012, she’d declined beyond the level of care I could provide and my family moved her into a nursing home.
I write copy that gets results because it’s written for people. Expect personality — your personality — to weave itself through the copy.
